We are standing at the threshold of one of the most important months of the entire year—a month revered by mystics and spiritual seekers across time. But in its deepest, Kabbalistic sense, Teshuvah comes from the root tashu, which means “to go back.” Yes, to go back in time. Not physically, of course, but at a consciousness level. And if we can successfully change the past in our consciousness, then the future must, by a cosmic law, be different and better.

Imagine for a moment what it would feel like to fix the mistakes you’ve always wished you could undo. “I wish I had done that differently,” “I wish I hadn’t said that.” We all carry regrets, guilt, and lingering feelings from past actions. The energy of Virgo is here to teach us that we don’t have to carry that weight. It is a time to fix past actions as though we did them right the first time, to correct the ripple effect of even a single choice that may have altered the course of our lives.

The sign of the Virgo is the virgin, and in a spiritual context, this symbolizes something profound: complete, unbroken, whole. A virgin represents an action before it has become a “broken” action, a negative activity. In Kabbalah, the concept of tikkun (correction) is applied to broken vessels and broken actions. While we can work on tikkun at any time, the month of Virgo offers an unparalleled and intensified ability to take all the actions of the entire past year—and even the entire journey of our soul—and change our future path.

The energy of Virgo, governed by the planet Mercury and the constellation itself, is often seen as critical and judgmental. It sees the details of everything. But this “judgment” is not for others; it is a sacred gift for ourselves. The month of Virgo is infused with abundant mercy—the opposite of judgment. This makes any change we wish to make easier, with far fewer barriers or obstacles than at any other time of the year.

This energy is meant for introspection. It’s about examining our past behavior in detail—critically, yes, but with a merciful understanding, not guilt. We must not say, “Oh, I did that wrong.” That is the wrong consciousness. Instead, we must understand a core spiritual truth: the mistakes of the past can become the vessels of light for the future.

This idea is beautifully illustrated in the Zohar, a central text of Kabbalah. The angels asked the Creator, “Why are you going to create man? He will only sin and make you angry.” The Creator’s answer reveals the deep spiritual purpose of our journey: “He will sin, but he will do Teshuvah. In essence, a negative is a vessel without light. For example, when a person acts out of a desire to steal, they are seeking fulfillment through a vessel (the stolen object) without spiritual light. The spiritual work of Virgo is to change our consciousness so we connect to a state of fulfillment, thereby negating the lack and filling the vessel with spiritual light. The original mistake—the theft—doesn’t disappear, but it becomes the vessel for a new, positive manifestation of light.

This process applies not only to personal actions but also to our relationships with others. It enables us to let go of being a “victim” and take spiritual responsibility.

The Three Steps to Change Your Destiny

To harness this incredible energy, we must engage in three key steps. This is a formula rooted in the wisdom of Kabbalah, but its principles resonate deeply with practices found in many spiritual traditions, from the intentionality of Buddhist meditation to the self-inquiry of Hindu yoga.

First, we must go into our past and make a list of as many things as we can find that we would label as mistakes or inconsistencies. What decisions did I make that I regret? How did I hurt others, or how did I play the victim? What bad choices did I make in my relationships, health, or finances? Write everything down. This isn’t about blaming yourself; it’s about seeing the threads of your past actions. You may find common patterns: perhaps a tendency to play the victim, a lack of personal responsibility, or a habit of selfish decisions. Awareness is the first and most crucial stage.

Step 2: Awakening the Yearning

Next, we must develop a profound desire to fix these issues. The Kabbalists teach that the most effective level of desire is yearning. It can’t be a simple “that would be nice.” It must be a deep, soulful longing to change the past, to correct the trajectory of your life. This yearning is the spiritual fuel that empowers you to do the work. When we truly desire something, we are willing to put in the effort. The energy of Virgo is here once a year, and it is the opportunity to change your life completely for the next eleven months. We must seize it.

Step 3: The Conscious Action of Teshuvah

The third step is action. Find a quiet time, perhaps before you go to sleep, and revisit a specific past mistake or regrettable action. Go back to the “scene of the crime” in your mind. What were you thinking? What was your motivation? Once you understand your state of mind at that moment, think about how you would live it differently now. Then, in your consciousness, play out the new, corrected action. You’re not just visualizing; you’re doing the action properly in your mind, taking full spiritual responsibility.

This works because there is no time in consciousness. Quantum mechanics tells us that what we perceive as reality is a reflection of our minds. By shifting our consciousness, we can literally change the way reality will manifest. The traumas and experiences we’ve had are not stuck in a linear past. By re-editing them in our consciousness, we create a new future.

Practical Tools for Your Spiritual Journey

This process is aided by specific spiritual tools that can help us tap into the Virgo energy more effectively.

1. The 72 Names of God: These are not names in the conventional sense, but powerful sequences of Hebrew letters that represent spiritual frequencies.

Name #12: This sequence is a tool for awakening unconditional love. It is used to dissolve guilt, resentment, and judgment—on yourself and on others. The only thing that truly dissolves hatred is love. Understand that everyone in your life is a messenger, a conduit for spiritual lessons. The Wisdom of Mistakes

We should not fear the mistakes we have made. We are here to make them. We are not here to be perfect; we are here to create perfection within ourselves. If we came into this world perfect, we would not need to be here at all. Our purpose is to constantly perfect ourselves and to retrieve the sparks of light we may have left behind.

The mistakes we have made are not to be regretted; rather, they are to be embraced. We must understand that they are the very vessels that will be filled with future light. By doing the work of Teshuvah in our consciousness, we are not erasing the past, but transforming it. When an opportunity arises again—a chance to choose differently—we will be ready, and the vessel will be filled with light.

Remember this profound truth from the Zohar: “Nothing stands before Teshuvah.” The process of going back and correcting our spiritual path can move mountains.

The month of Virgo is the time when the cosmos is most open, offering us a direct line of communication with the Universal Force. It is a time of desire, of goodwill, and of infinite light shining down upon us. This is the gift of Virgo—the power to re-edit our life journey and to choose a new, more enlightened path forward.
